The Design Process
Background
Lost In The Sauce is a specialized hot sauce company founded by Karthy Subramaniam. LITS needed a PR box that would deliver more than just sauce, it had to deliver an experience.
Requirements
Karthy wanted the packaging to reflect the brand and create a “treasure chest” unboxing experience. It needed to be sleek and dynamic, not too loud or wordy, sturdy enough for shipping, and designed for assembly that didn’t require glue or tape.
My Project
I designed a PR box for two bottle sizes and a sample, focusing on function and a delightful unboxing experience.
Concept Development and Considerations
For the "treasure chest" theme, I designed a dark, minimal exterior that opened to a bright, expressive interior. While LITS branding is bold, I used a grayscale version with soft gradients to maintain personality without overwhelming the design.
To avoid adhesives, I constructed the box with extra flaps to fold into itself.
Prototypes and Testing
I created the box and insert dielines in Illustrator and a mockup in Photoshop. I then refined the design with my team through rounds of feedback. One challenge was perfecting insert spacing to hold items snugly while still making them easy to remove.
